Most of us write off dragons as fictional fire-breathing creatures lurking in abandoned castles. After all, this is how they have been portrayed in popular culture – as nothing more than fairytales for children, and perhaps symbols of destruction… primitive beasts that know no better.
But there’s a lot more to this mythological cake. Dragons do exist. Perhaps not as flying creatures that have a searing temper for everyone and everything, but rather as ancient spiritual energies representing protection, guardianship, and divine power. This force is known as dragon energy, and it’s something we can learn to tap into.
Within many cultures, dragons are revered as deities that are responsible for cosmic balance, creation, and protection. Whether we’re looking at Eastern cultures, Western cultures, or shamanic traditions, dragons, in whatever interpretation they take are deeply imprinted into the collective human psyche.
In this article, weโre looking at what dragons are from a spiritual perspective, and we’ll touch on what dragon energy is. Let’s jump down the rabbit hole because I’m going to share my understanding and my experiences connecting with these powerful energies.
Are dragons real from a spiritual perspective?
You might not believe me when I sayย dragons are real. When I say this most people just give me a blank look, questioning my sanity, or perhaps if I’m mentally handicapped. I know right, it’s just like we stopped believing in ghosts when we grew up, but then a spiritual awakening hit and our understanding of the mystical evolved once again.
From a spiritual perspective, dragons are ancient interdimensional beings that play a significant role in the spiritual realms. You can view a dragon as a non-material being – as a spirit, deity, or energy. You may not see a dragon with your eyes, but you may connect to one during deep states of meditation, via ceremony, or during certain moments of your life when you need their help.
In the spiritual world, dragons are ancient beings, protectors, and symbols of divine wisdom. They are portrayed as ancient beings by every culture I’m aware of – meaning when you tap into dragon energy, it feels much older than your soul.
From my understanding, dragons are masculine energies, meaning they primarily consist of yang energy. Duality is key here because dragons arenโt strictly benevolent or malevolent. They’re generally seen as neutral entities that can be transformative or destructive depending on how we engage with them.
My first experience with dragon energy was during an ayahuasca ceremony. As the medicine kicked in, I had this deep intuitive feeling that I was connecting to an ancient wisdom of the dragons. It’s hard to describe because I didn’t believe in dragons at the time, yet I somehow felt their energy.
When I embraced this powerful energy, I found myself transported into another dimension in the literal sense of the word. I couldn’t tell you whether my eyes were open or closed, but the space I observed was simply majestic with massive dragons ‘swimming’ through the cosmos.
But these dragons werenโt just pretty visuals. They exuded something deeply sacred. It felt like they were downloading divine information into my being and showing me truths about the universe that Iโd never accessed before. While in this space, all my channels were open. I was watching the future and the past simultaneously while a river of esoteric knowledge flooded into me.
My body automatically moved into intriguing postures I’m not sure I’ve ever sat in before and this torrent of information flooded into me. This encounter opened me up to some pretty heavy-duty spiritual stuff, but I knew that whatever was happening, it was incredible.
The vision eventually came to an end and I was sucked back into the ceremony – into my human consciousness. However, I felt elated for a couple of weeks following that experience, and it completely changed my beliefs that dragons are highly advanced souls and spiritual gatekeepers.
This encounter was a catalyst for spiritual transformation. It wasnโt just about seeing dragons. It was about feeling their energy, their guidance, and their profound connection to the spiritual realms. Ever since, dragon energy has been a source of strength and clarity in my life, and it’s something I believe to be very sacred.
Why dragons exist across cultures
Dragons have been a part of many different cultures around the world, since the dawn of humanity. These ancient mythological creatures are often as old as the cultures themselves and always have an important spiritual significance.
Interestingly, regardless of how different the culture or society was back in the day, their depictions of dragons are relatively the same. A dragon, in almost every culture, takes the form of a divinely powerful serpentine creature associated with power and creation. They’re seen as spiritual guardians, gatekeepers, and symbols of cosmic knowledge.
Dragons are often seen with the status of deities. In the East, theyโre seen as guardians of cosmic energy while in the West, theyโre often portrayed as powerful and fearsome beings. Some traditions even see dragons as intermediaries between the spiritual and material planes. Indigenous cultures in Australia, India, Africa, and Mesoamerica tend to depict dragons as gods of creation.
Each culture has its interpretation of these divine beings, including the Rainbow serpent in Australian aboriginal culture, the Aido-Hwedo in some African cultures, Quetzalcoatl (the feathered serpent in Aztec culture), and Nagas which are dragons in Hindu mythology. The theme is always very similar – divine spiritual deities, energies, or spirits that aren’t messing around.
The thing about dragons is that they’re so common in popular culture. I believe it’s no coincidence – as the wisdom of these beings has been drip-fed into the collective consciousness. I don’t think there’s a person out there who doesn’t know what a dragon is.
When something mythological is so prominent among every culture and religion, that’s gotta tell you something. After all, that’s the basis of Omnism, and we shouldn’t look the other way.
The funny thing is that most people I know who I consider to be spiritually advanced, including most shamans, Indigenous healers, and psychics believe that dragons exist. Of course, they don’t claim they’re flying around here on Earth. They claim that they are divine beings that are present in the spiritual realms.
Not to mention, dragon energy has also popped into new-age spirituality in recent years, and more spiritual seekers are beginning to recognize dragons as real entities.
So, this has to tell you something – that maybe there’s a little more under the surface to these prominent cultural symbols.
Awakening your dragon energy
Dragons are cosmic powers, meaning that when you tap into these energies, it awakens something inside you – often coined ‘awakening your inner dragon’. They represent the power to awaken consciousness and rise into something greater. Their energy is all about divine empowerment, and tapping into our innate nature of creation.
ย If youโve ever felt an activation of untapped potential, or perhaps an elevation into your divine spiritual nature, you may be channeling dragon energy without realizing it.
Like other energies that we can tap into, I believe there may be particular rituals or spiritual practices that can help us connect with these ancient energies. Some people believe dragon energy can be awakened with esoteric knowledge – acting like the key to a padlock, others believe we can all tap into dragon energy via meditation.
There are a lot of energies and different things we can tap into in the spiritual realm by directing our consciousness to them, we just need to learn how it’s done.
With that said, connecting with dragon energy is about embodying its essence of strength, wisdom, and the courage to transform. Perhaps, if we embody the qualities of the dragon, we will develop a deeper connection to the energy of the dragon. Regardless, we all have the potential, we just need to unleash it.
